Henna Tattoos

Henna Tattoos are becoming one of the most popular trends of the new millennium. With the practice introduced to the mainstream by such artist as Demi Moore and Madonna, it is sure to keep making an impact on both sides of the Atlantic and stick around for years to come.

Henna tattoos are not like regular tattoos that you must keep for a lifetime. Rather henna is a type of tattoo that is temporary, not permanent. With a mixture of simple paste and a good design, it is easy to imprint the surface of your skin with a tattoo that fades away gradually over a course of six weeks. Henna, otherwise known as mendhi, is a tall, shrub-like plant that grows in hot, dry climates. It is grown mostly in North African countries and Middle Eastern countries. The leaves of the plant are ground into a powder and made into a paste, which, when applied to the skin, leaves an orange stain. After about 24 hours, the orange dye darkens to reddish-brown and then begins to fade as the skin renews itself. People have been painting each other for thousands of years with henna, but it is just now being reborn in America.

Henna tattoos are a great choice to make for anyone who either is afraid of the needle or just doesn’t want to make a lifetime commitment to a tattoo. They are temporary, beautiful, and the design options are endless.
