Irish tattoo

Irish tattoos are in a field all their own. They are tattoos that are not just for the regular citizens that want to look good or rebellious. No, they are tattoos that define a philosophy of life, often times making a statement of which they belong with, Catholic or Protestant. In Ireland there is a fierce battle going on that for many people define enitre generations. It is the battle of the Protestants and the Catholics, a battle that has gone on for lifetimes. So the tattoos that many people there get are often times an identifier for one of the two groups.

The Republicans are Catholic and identify themselves most often with a gun wielding Leprechaun. This leprechaun represents their battle with the non-republicans and it can be seen so often on the arms or backs of the Irish. Non-republicans may get these tattoos as well, but for both groups there is almost always some difference that sets the two groups apart.

Not all Irish tattoos are symbolic of what the person holds dear and true. Many tattoos simply show images of Leprechauns, clovers, or Celtic designs. Celtic designs are designs that come from the knots, and patterns that monks drew around the pages of the bible. These designs are elaborate and can take painstakingly long to have done. They cost more money as well because of the time it takes to do them, so if you get one, be prepared to pay more money and take more time on the tattoo table. Celtic tattoos are very popular in Ireland, just as they are in most of the world.

When looking for an Irish tattoo, consider what the tattoo may mean. You may get a tattoo that you think looks good, but not realize that you are pledging association with some Irish gang. Look on the Internet for the meaning of different tattoos, or simply ask the tattoo artist. Whatever you choose, a tattoo is for life, so make sure it is something you can live with.
